Mrs Lovatt has been nominated by the Civic League as a candidate for election to the Whangarei School 'Committee, of which she was previously a member.

The Rt. Hon. .T. G. Coates, Minister of Finance, who has been visiting his home at Matakohe, arrived in Auckland this morning to address the Creditmen’s Club at a luncheon. He will return North this evening.

The Poroti Rugby football club is fortunate to have associated with its foundation Mr J. Gunthorpe, who, with Mr W. J. Thorpe, was active in the organisation of a junior team. Mr Gunthorpe is a recent arrival from Manukau, where he was prominent in football circles.

Steele, moving the re-election of the popular Rugby head ar the annual meeting last night. “Under his able chairmanship and guidance, we arc now in the position of owning our own grounds.” The nomination was sustained unanimously. In replying, Mr Collins said that he was proud at having been associated with the procuring and development .of the two grounds at Rugby Park. The dressing sheds, when complete',' he felt sure would be equal to any, and better than some, in the big centres.

At the meeting of the Whangarei Harbour Board today, the .secretary Voported that Mr David E. Young had resigned his scat as representative ot the Hikurangi Town District, and that the extraordinary A r acancy had been tilled by the appointment of Mr EdAvard E. Rickard the nominee of tho Hikurangi Toavii Board. Before proceeding Avith the ordinary business, tho chairman, on behalf of the board, welcomed Mr Rickard to the table. At present, said Mr Einlayson, the board had a hard roAv to hoe, but from AA r hat he had heard of Mr Rickard he Avas sure the new member would do justice to the people of Hikurangi and to himself. The board placed on record its appreciation of the services rendered by Mr Young.
