SHEEP DOG TRIALS

WHANGAREI COUNTY FIXTURE.. The Whangarei County Sheep Dog Club’s annual Trials were continued today under most; favourable conditions and the attendance of the public is very good. The Long Head was completed this morning the results being as follows: —

THE LONG HEAD. . The long head at the Whangarei sheep dog trials yesterday resulted: — 1. —6. K, McKenzie’s (Waipu) Trim: ' 17, 15, 3,8; 43. 2. E. H. Sloane’s Glen: 17, 16, 2, 7 ;42. 3. —T. Jordan’s Crib: 17, 15, 1,7; 40. 4. J. Wrack’s Laddie: 16, 15, 1,7; 39. COMMENTS ON THE PLACED DOGS G. R. McKenzie’s Trim. —Cast to right, made a good head in fast time; dog very firm in the pull; made good line to the flat, but allowed sheep to bear off slightly to the right; sheep split on the flat, but entered the ring in front; let sheep out of ring once; very fair hold. Trim made a very firm and decided run under good command. '

E. H. Sloane’s Glen. —Cast to right, went out on good line; came in slightly; recast nicely; headed well; -made very good pull, w T ith two slight faults; entered ring in front •in 7.40;' - first round fair; let sheep out twice;’, tiine called. Glen was ''unfortunate. ' ' The sheep broke away to the right/and-he headed in splendid style under difficult circumstances, the extra time involved preventing him from finishing. T. Jordan’s Crib.—Cast to right, headed well in 55 seconds; made fairly good pull on hill; rather fast on flat, but straight; entered ring from side in four minutes. Ring work only fair. Dog too wide on the turns. Command onlv fair.

J. Wrack’s Laddie. —Cast to left, went out on good line; stopped, once and headed nicely; pulled in fairly good line; noisy; entered ring from back in 6.40; ring work poor; sheep out of ring most of the time; command fair. THE HUNTAWAY. Sixteen dogs competed in the linn tawny event which was completed early this afternoon, the placings being as follows: H. B. Sloanc’s Ben.—Huntaway 16, noise 7, style 5, command 10; total 38—1. E. Sloane’s Bill.—Huntaway 15, noise 9, style 4, command 8; total 36—2. C. Child’s .Nib.—Huntaway 12, noise 5, style 4, command 8; total 29—3. • John Thompson’s Wag.—Huntaway 11, noise 5, style 4, command 7; total* 28—4. . *.
