ROTOR FA, Tuesday
Considerable anxiety was caused in Rotorua owing to the loss of a young couple in the bush at the back of Lake Tarawera on Sunday night. A girl, aged 1!) years and a man aged IM, set out to have a week-end of deerstalking. They had arranged to meet a guide on the shore of Lake Te Wairoa, but as he was not there they set out to cross the lake in a dinghy. Overtaken by darkness the couple made for the shore. They had no matches and very little fond, and had to spend the bitterly cold night in the bush. Meanwhile the guide came to the rendezvous, and finding only a motor cycle he informed the police. A search was instituted and the party had an unpleasant time in the dark in rough country.
Finally Constable A. Shilton in a launch met the couple trying to make their way back in a dignhy. They were in an exhausted condition, but soon recovered.
