STOLE A SHOVEL
RELIEF WORKER’S LAPSE. ' TOOLS DISAPPEAR AT KIOREROA John Patrick Conaghan pleaded guilty at the Whangarei Police Court this morning to the theft of a shovel, the property of the Whangarei Harbour Board. The prosecution stated that a number of the tools issued to relief workers at Kioreroa had disappeared and that Conaghan had admitted taking a shovel.
The presiding justices, Messrs W. Jones and F. Farmer, regarded the matter in a serious light. Conaghan was told that he was liable to a fine of £2O or three months’ imprisonment. Under the circumstances the penalty would be the light one of £1 and restitution, but the justices indicated that any similar case which came before them would be treated more severely.
