The Prince -of .Wales was, among the spectators in the Albert Hall who witnessed one ot. the strangest events in the history of boxing. Bon McCorldndale (South Africa) was fighting Larry Gains (Canada) in a 10-ronnd match that did not involve the latter’s Empire title, when ho delivered a blow to the jaw in the last round that foiled Gains, who, however, rolled over at the count of three.

Gains rested on his knee and prepared to rise. The timekeeper counted to seven and the referee, Mr C. Douglas, counted with him simultaneously to nine. The latter then shouted out, despite the fact that Gains was rising and that the timekeeper had not finished his count.
