INFATUATED GIRL

FOLLOWED MAN TO CHATHAMS

How a. 19-yoar-old Auckland girl overcame efforts to prevent her going to the Chatham Islands with a married mad was related before 31 r 11. W. Young, S.M., today, when the girl was charged with being idle and disorderly. The police said the girl was the only child of well-to-do Auckland people, and had had a college education. TL! recently she had boon cpiite respectable, but a married man had crossed hqr path. The girl, had become infatuated with him and had begun living a last life. When the man obtained work at the Chathams she had promised not to go, but had hidden on the steamer Tees. 'When she was found to be missing her parents had communicated with the police, and the girl had been arrested on arrival at the Chathams.

The girl’s mother had arrived from Auckland, and the girl was evidently repentant, stated the police. Senior Sergeant Fox said that tor two vears the girl had kept company with a respectable young man, but following her infatuation with the married man her behaviour had not been of the best. The married man had gone to Auckland, where he had visited the girl’s parents, posing as a. single man. The girl’s parents had Avarned her, but she had not heeded them. As a, result of a conspiracy she had been hidden on the Tees. Xow she had evidently learned the error of her ways, and if the case was adjourned for a week the charge might then be withdrawn. The case was adjourned for a week, the girl, whose name was suppressed, promising to return home.
