ADVICE TO THE HOUSEWIFE
GET VALUE FOR MONEY. You can. rely upon it, Madam, that if a manufacturer consistently advertises his product over a period of years that product is great value for money. If a' manufacturer stops advertising it is because he thinks he can live on his reputation or because the public has discovered defects in his or service and he has gone out of business. The manufacturer of cheap, unbranded, unadvertised lines has no reputation to lose. He may remain in business long enough to do ethical traders considerate harm, but in the end he goes to the wall. .Nest time you go shopping, Madam, consider price by all means, but see that you get value for money. Buy branded lines that have been advertised consistently over a period of years. That is your best safeguard of value. Avoid imitations like the plague. An imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but it very rarely approximates even faintly the quality of the imitated product. And bear in mind, too, that any manufacturer ■who is unscrupulous enough to attempt to steal another manufacturer’s good will by imitating his package or his product is likely to be just as unscrupulous • with his customers. —Vincent H. Ereeth, iu the “Taranaki Herald.’ ’
