VISITING MUSICIANS
THE DEVONPORT HAND. A PULL WEEK-END. Saturday evening’s Salvation Army* band festival was a success. The playing of the visitors was of a very High order, and reflected • great credit upon Bandmaster A. Barker. In addition to band selections and marches, several items were given. Miss Dreaver, of Auckland, who accompanied the band on the trip, lived up to her reputation as a clever elocutionist. Her two monologues, “Rose’s Relations,” and “The Limitations of Youth,” wore well received. Two very good instrumental solos were given by Bandsman A. Wostken (cornet) and Bandsman Hallawell (euphonium). Pianoforte solos were played by Mrs A’Court, E.T.C.L., .“Hark, Hark the . Lark” (Schubert-Lizst) and Miss E, Parker, ‘‘Val.so Caprice” (Rathbono). Bandmaster J. E. Rive gave a violin SOIO.
The band assisted at both morning ; and evening services at the Salvation Army barracks, and played before a large crowd at Central Park on Sun- . day afternoon. -Extra! seating aceora-' modation was necessary - for the after J church programme. After giving a short programme at the Public Hospital yesterday morning, the band marched to the railway otatiori, where they were given a rousing send off by local Salvationists and their friends. ’ This was the first visit to Whangarei of most of the bandsmen, who were all charmed by the beauties and surroundings of the town.
