THE AERIAL PAGEANT.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Your correspondent, in my opinion, makes a somewhat, presumptu- j oils claim when lie says that the vast' majority of the people wore disap-j pointed at the display given at the j aerial pageant. It may be so, but] I was there almost from start to tin-1 ish, and I heard no complaints from the crowd among whom I was standing. Your correspondent may be perfectly correct hi stating that the programme did not go quite according to schedule, but so far as the stunting was concerned, I have seen plenty of similar exhibitions, and I reckon it was particularly good. As for the number of passengers carried, I take it the airmen were doing Whangarei a. real service in running 10/ flights, and it was no wonder so man}' people took advantage of the chance to try the newest, form of travel. I have only had one flight in my life, and it cost me a guinea. I reckoned it Avas well worth it, too, as a novel sensation. The only reason I didn’t go up on this occasion was because, in the colloquial language of my colonial brothers, I was as “stiff as a poker,” and hadn’t the opportunity. I would not have bothered writing this epistle if your correspondent had merely expressed his own opinion; I simply question his right to voice the opinions of the majority there —a pretty difficult thing to do at any time and in any place. It might have been achieved by a show of hands, but so far as I know it was not tried that way, hence I must conclude that your correspondent Is guessing more or less and gauging
other people’s opinions by his own. 1 would very much like to hear what others have to say about this matter. —I am, etc., SATISFIED SPECTATOR.
