MANY BREACHES. CROP AT COURT TODAY. FINER IMPOSED. A large number of cases arising out of breaches of the traffic laws came before Mr G. N. Morris, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. Elizabeth Worsnop, in answer to a charge of driving a ear in Bank Street without a tail light, on October 1, said she did not know the light was nut. When she got home, however, she found it was not burning. She was fined 10/- and 12/- costs. William Sketchley’s cause for (Hiving a car in Bank Street on October 15, in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public, was that he was taking a sick man home. Senior-Sergeant Powell said defendant was travelling at 40 miles an hour. “1 understand that yon should be in a hurry, but you were running the risk of causing an accident,” said Mr Morris, fining Sketchier £2 and costs 10/-. Clarence John Johansen, did not appear to answer a charge of driving a n otor cycle at Mama without a license. Constable Quinn, however, produced a statement in which defendant admitted the offence. He was fined £1 and 10/- costs. Mr R. K. Trimmer pleaded guilty, on behalf of Lester Sinclair, to a charge of allowing a car to remain in Cameron Street for a period over 15 minutes. Defendant was fined 10/and costs 10/-.

Allan Lpehre (Air Johnson) pleaded guilty to operating a heavy lorry without it being licensed for the carriage of goods and passengers in Whangarei, on October 10. Air Ashton said defendant had told him he would take out a license as soori as possible, but he had not done so. Peelire was fined £3 and cos'-c 10/-, but was allowed time to pay. Glaisher Aferton (Air Thorne) pleaded guilty to allowing his motor lorry to stand at the corner of Bank and Water Streets, so as to obstruct traffic, and was fined 10/- and 10/- costs. Mr Thorne also pleaded guilty on behalf of William Snedden Agar, to exceeding the speed lirntf of 15 miles in hour while crossing the intersection of Bank and Water Streets.

“This is one of the most frequent causes of accidents in the town,” said Air .Aforris, imposing a fine of 30/- and costs 10/-.

“This man is a nuisance, and has been frequently warned,” said Air J. H. Ashton, when the charge against William Payne was hoard. Payne did not appear to answer a charge of stopping his car in Bank Street on October 27 wide of the left-hand side.

Air Ashton said Payne had parked his car outside a line of vehicles already parked alongside the kerb.

Payne was fined £1 and costa 10/-. Joseph Norman (Mr Thorne), a bus driver, admitted passing another vehicle travelling over six miles an hour in the same direction at the intersection of Bank and Grey Streets on October 1. He denied a further charge of driving in a manner dangerous to the public.

The second count was dismissed, and he was fined £l and eosts 10/- on the first.

The Whangarei Dairy Company (Mr Thomson) was arraigned for overloading a lorry at Hnatangata on October 10. The company pleaded guilty.

Mr F. Watters, district traffic inspector, said it weighed S tons 7 ewt. The County Council had given the company a concession from 41 tons to 7 tons.

Mr Thomson pointed out that the lorries started at one end of a road empty and picked up cans on their way back. It was hard to keep a cheek and at present there were heavy loads as it was the flush of the season.

Mr Morris said he must regard the matter as serious as the County Council had been very generous in its concession to the company. He Imposed a fine of £.°, and 10/costs.
