The lion. E. A. Ransom, Minister ot Lands, was due in Wlmngarei this afternoon. He is staying at the Settlers’ Hotel.
The esteem in which 7\lrs .1. A. West is held by a wide circle of Ibe ladies of Whangarel was evidenced on a recent afternoon, when she was entertained prior to her departure for Dargaville, where Mr West has been appointed manager of the National Bank of New Zealand. There was a large gathering at the residence of Mrs Finch. Sincere regret was expressed that Mrs West was leaving Whangarel, and, to remind her of her friends and Ihe place which she occupied in their hearts, she was presented with a handsome rose bowl. The hostesses were Mesilaiaes Finch, Foster and Onnn.
