NOVELTY EVENT
MOTOR CYCLE CLUB. A DIFFICULT RACE. The Whangarei Motor Cycle Sports Club hold a novelty event during the week-end, and it was not easy for the competitors. They were given a list of things they had to obtain, and the first man home with the lot was the winner. The list of things they had to get was as follows:—A spray of pink teatree; some wool oil a sheep’s back; three pipi shells; a piece of limestone; a girl’s garter, not to belong to a friend or relative, but to be borrowed or taken by force from someone met on the road. There was an alternative to the last article. A horse-shoe would do instead, and most of the riders arrived back with horse-shoes.
Allen Higgens, riding a Norton, won the event, with E. Courtney (Rex Acme) second, and .1. Taylor (8.5. A.) third.
