WHEAT FUTURES
COLLAPSE IN CHICAGO,
LOWEST FOR 70 YEARS,
OUTSIDE COMPETITION,
CHICAGO, October 29,
The lowest rates on record for wheat futures in 70 years of trading in the Chicago wheat pit and the lowest cash price for 80 years were established today, when December wheat dropped on’ persistent liquidation.
The '.loni.nal price of No. 2 hard winter wheat reached 44J cents. Quotations reached 34 cents in July, IBS2, hut at that time Chicago had tablished its place as the world's
grain marker.,
The collapse of prices today is attributed to news that the Australian harvests have hegiiii and that Argen> tiua is prepared to cut prices, thus presaging fierce world competition. .
