BAND CONCERT

RELAYED THROUGH IYA,

TITOH CLASS ENTERTAINMENT.

A concert by the AVhangarei Alnnieipal Band and assisting artists, hold in tlio Town Hall last ovoning, was relayed on Broadcast from Station IYA, Auckland. It also earned good local patronage, and the hall was well filled with an appreciative audience.

The concert was a high-class entertainment from the opening selection to the (inal number. The band, conducted by Air Albert Dobson, L.A.8., L.T.C.L., led off with the march “Wairarapa” (C. Trussed), and was followed by Alias Jessie Mac Kay, who sang “The Pipes of Pan’’ (Monckton). She was enthusiastically encored, and for her return number sang Kreisler’s “Cradle

Cos. Wright ’s Orchestra then took up the theme, rendering a selection of “Popular Atolodics,” and Airs Griffin supplied humour with her elocutionary item “ Wcgotariums ’ ’ (Una O ’Connor). The presentation won a wide appeal, and Airs Griffin r was brought back to recite “ 1 Dminn.” The next item was the band selection “William Toll” (Rossini), which was succeeded by the solo, “When The Sorgeant-Atajor’s On Parade,” rendered by Air H. Parker. As an encore, Air Parker sang “Arise, O Sun.’’

The pianoforte solo, “Rigoletto Paraphrase ’’ (Liszt), played by Air A. Dobson, won applause, and he responded with “Last Hope” (Gotschalk). .Madame X. Dobson's singing of “L’Eto" (Cliaminnde) was excellent, and her encore was “The Bird and the Babe.''

Once again the band entertained, this time with the selection “Classic Gems Xo. 1" (W. Rimmer), and Mrs Griffin caused high amusement with “Honesty'' (original), followed by “A Day in the Country.'' Mr A. D. S. Cameron was responsible, for the next, solo, “She Is Par Prom .the Land,’’ and Bandsman A. Leatherby pleased with a cornet solo, with band accompaniment, “.Tack In The Box.'' “More Popular Melodies’’ was the next number, played by Ces. Wright's Orchestra, and the band brought the evening to a close with the march “On To Victory’’ (Thornton). Mr A. Dobson was the accompanist.
