GENERATION BY STEAM,

HTIvURANGI PROPOSITION.

ENGINEER ’S OBJECTIONS,

The executive of the North Auckland Electric Power Board mot. at Mikurangi, when there were present Messrs ,T. A. McLean, chairman, E. G. Appleton, L. W. Nelson (Whangarei), W. Collins (Maungaturoto) and the board’s engineer, Mr T. R. Overton.

Mr Nesbitt, chairman of the Hikurangi Town Board, waited on the board in regard to the proposal that the board should erect a steam plant on the Hikurangi coalfields for the generation of electricity with which to reticulate North Auckland.

The engineer, Mr Overton, presented a report in which it was demonstrated that the generation of electricity by steam was not a payable proposition compared with the prices of power from the Government hydroelectric plant.

The executive decided to have a copy of tin* report circulated among members of the local bodies.
