ONERAHI NEWS

(Erpm;Om* Own Correspondent.) Wakakura Farewell pance. Tlio farewpll dance given in the Town Hall on Tuesday to the people of Onorahi by the officers and men of H.M.S. Wakakura, was a great success, and altogether a delightful evening. Officers and men of the ship were present in force. Guests rolled up well from the township and far afield, and a good crowd was present as the music struck up. Arrangements for the occasion were in the hands of Mr Hall, of the Wakakura, and right well he 'acquitted himself. The decorations were a. work of art. Greenery and flowers and bright bunting lent vivid colour to the interior, and as dancers footed it breath the lights the scene was a gay one. Mr Harding, also of the ship, made a genial- and efficient M.Cc Captain Brpoker, in a hijippy speech referred to the jolly times lie and the ship ’s company had had during their periodic, visits to Onerahi, and the universal kindness extended to them. It had been almost like home as they returned from their cruises in the gulf. They were sorry to go, but would carry away fondest recollections of the township and its people. The parting, he hoped, would not be for long, and lie hoped that next year would see the Wakakura again berthed at Onerahi (applause). Dancing' went with ii swing and not a dull moment marred the fun. The lads in blue were out for enjoyment and, when Miss Topsy Dale, with her sailor partner, won the palm for the Monte Carlo, their cheering set the echoes ringing. The catering was in the'hands of the Onerahi ladies. A very daintysupper was served and the fun was kept going till well fitter midnight. Cards, on the stage, occupied the time of non-dancers, and a series of keen

and interesting "amps resulted in first prize going to Mrs P. .Mason and Mr liennn winning tlm second, whilst, '‘booby’' was nwardod to Captain Brooker.
