Indian Legislative Assembly, and a close friend of Gandhi, sent a cable to Gandhi asking him to reconsider his “starve to death decision/’ He says: “I am sure that public opinion is against your decision. I would appeal to you to respect that opinion yourself. Your life’s mission is still incomplete.’’
LIVELY DEBATE. CONFLICTING OPINIONS. (Received 10 a.m.) CALCUTTA, September 14. Gandhi’s starvation threat was the subject of a, lively debate in the Indian Assembly. A Hindu Nationalist fiercely . attacked the Government for the “segregation’’ of the depressed classes from the caste of the Hindus,'by granting the former separate electorates. Other Indian members, however, showed little sympathy with Gandhi’s gesture. The Calcutta “Statesman’’ says that if Gandhi chooses to die he will not die a hero, but will die to prevent a larger freedom for millions, whose wrongs have stirred the imagination of the world;
