WARO'S FATE

INFORMATION INDEFINITE. . Ct * A conference of the directors of the Waro -Co-operative-Collieries,. Ltd., and of the'Hikurangi" Coai Company met this morning to discuss the crisis which has occurred in-connection - with the Waro mine. A meeting of miners was held this afternoon, but no information regarding the decision reached at either of the meetings was obtainable when we went to press. To take advantage of the fourteen* days necessary before relief work can be given/ practically all the miners of the "Waro Co-operative Colliery are registering as unemployed. The. number involved is about 140, of whom between 80 and 90 are married. Unless a last minute solution is found, and the men are kept in their accustomed employment, it is difficult, to know what provision can be made for them.' It appears that the Hikurangi Town Board already is experiencing difficulty in providing work for men already registered, and any relief scheme of the magnitude required to provide work for the Waro men' will of necessity have to be 'further afield.
