ARSON COMMITTED
THREE MEN DEALT WITH. TWO SENT TO GAOL. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) DUNEDIN, This Day. William Alexander Mackenzie, aged 26, and Thomas Mills Stewart, aged 23, were sentenced to-day to two years’ imprisonment for arson. Stewart Walter Muir, a youth, aged IS, for the same offence, was admitted to three years’ probation.' A shop at St. Kilda owned by Mackenzie, was set on fire by Muir at the instigation of the others, with a view to collecting the insurance money. Muir was admitted to probation on account of his youth. Statements made before the sentences wen* pronounced showed that Mackenzie and Stewart planned the fire to get the insurance money, which would enable them to go to Scotland to buy an hotel. Muir, who lit the match, was inveigled into the scheme by the older men.
