SANCTIONING OF LOANS,

The acting-Ministor of Finance, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, stated yesterday that his attention had boon drawn to the Press statement suggesting that information be , obtained whether the Local GoA’crnmont Loans Board had sanctioned the raising of any loans by the Thames Borough Council or the Thames Harbour Board. Mr, Forbes remarked that Avitlx two exceptions AA’hich had been referred to all loans for those tAvo local authorities had been authorised to be raised before the Local GoA 7 ernment Loans Board commenced to function, soon after the Local GoA'ernmcnt Loans| Board Act, 1926, came into operation. On April 1, 3927, the Loans Board approA'ed of tAvo 10 per cent, supplementary loans, authorising this, under Section 19 of the Local Bodies Loan Act, 1926, for completing loan works previously authorised by a poll of ratepayers.
