FEARSOME EARTHQUAKE
MEXICAN TOWN DESTROYED SWEPT BY HUGE WAVES. NUMEROUS VICTIMS. , _ HAVOC ALONG COAST. . (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) ' (Received .9 a.m.) MEXICO CITY, June 22. An earthquake and tidal wave early this morning destroyed the town of Cuyutlan, a seaside resort in the State of Colima. The bodies of 30 victims have been, recovered, and survivors searched the; niins for others. However, it is fear-; ed that the mountainous waves which; swept in over the small-town carried many away. Extensive damage was caused - alir up and down the coast. This to the fear that the number of dead may be great.

The Governor reported that the tidal wave swept inland for more than ;it mile over an 18-mile front, 1 levelling - ( everything in its path. - Two brief, minor earthquakes 'were' preceded by a heavy tremor, which ushered in the wave, and served to rouse the inhabitants, 'many • of whom fled to the beach for safety. , There _ ■/; the tidal wave trapped them, sweeping many inland to death or outwards to * sea to drown.
