OTAMATEA COUNTY COUNCIL

THE ANNUAL REPORT. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) PAPAROA, This Day. Air Rodney Coates, chairman of the Otamatea County Council, showed in his annual report yesterday that by careful management the council had balanced it budget. Rates had been reduced to 20 per cent lower than the average for the past 10 years. Operations had been confined strictly to essential work- and maintenance. All the ridings had worked within their estimates, ’there being a total net working credit of £2094 on the riding accounts, in spite of the lower rates levied. Alaintenancc work had been carried out over 48 miles of main highways, and nearly 23 miles of new metalling had been done on other roads. The county had 262 miles of metalled roads to maintain, and 114 miles of nnmetallcd road. Rates collected amounted to £11,823, an average for the county of just under 90 per cent. Receipts during the year amounted to £30,960, and payments to £31,192.
