SUSPECTS ARRESTED.

MASK AND PISTOL DISCOVERED,

(Per Presi Association.—Oopyrlfht.) WELLINGTON, This Day. In the course of investigations in connection with the hold-ups which occurred in the suburbs of Wellington during the past week, Detectives McLennan and Constable Scarry arrested the two men'at Petone at 10 o’clock on Thursday night, on a charge of attempted breaking and entering.

Detective McLennan communicated with the Detective Office in Wellington, and as a result of information which he supplied the detectives went to Abel Smith Street, where they arrested, at 3 a.m., a third man on a charge of breaking, entering and theft. When the man's lodgings were searched subsequently the detectives found a mask, an automatic pistol, ammunition and two bludgeons.

Leslie Gordon Clarke, aged 22, and Sidney John Hodge, 35, were charged in the Police Court at Petone yesterday with attempted breaking and entering on July 31, at the Self Help Cooperative Store, in Jackson Street, with intent to commit theft. They were remanded.

William Edward Brown, cabinetmaker, aged 27, appeared before Mr E. Page, S.M., at the Police Court, and was remanded until August 27 on a charge of breaking and entering the warehouse of the Saracen Shoe Company and stealing goods valued at £6.
