PURUA VALEDICTORY.

MR AND MRS W. DYER. On Friday evening last, one of the most successful and representative functions ever held in the district eventuated at Puma, when residents from far and near gathered to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs W. Dyer, and to mark the esteem in which they have been held during their long residence in 'the district. A special feature was the presence of a number of old identities who gathered as a mark of the respect in which Mr and Mrs Dyer are held, and to wish them good luck and happiness in their new home at Ivaitaia.

Dancing occupied most, of the .evening, and during an interval before supper, Mr W. M. F. Coates presented the guests of honour with a ease of cutlery.

Mr Dyer made'appropriate response on behalf of himself and Mrs Dyer, for the handsome gift and many good wishes.

A dainty supper, provided by the ladies of the district, was dispensed, and dancing was continued. An -enthusiastic and enjoyable function concluded, when the gathering joined hands, and heartily sang “Auld Lang Syne'' and the National Anthem. The music for the dancing was .supplied by Mrs Carrington, Miss McGee-, Miss Annie Lambert, Messrs Grieve, La Paige Robbie, and E. Dyer. Among those present were. —Mesdames W.
