WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
MAUNU BRANCH. The Maunu branch of the Women’s Institute met on Thursday afternoon at the residence of Mrs Harding Hawken, Mrs Wilson presiding over a record attendance. Mrs Dorehill gave a demonstration on the making of moccasins. This proved: one of the most useful'and interesting demonstrations the institute has had. Mrs Hawken procured the skins with which to work. A delectable afternoon tea was served followed by the reading of iStanley Houghton’s play, “The Year Departed. ” Those participating were as follows. —Abel Merfyweather (grandfather), Mrs J. I. Wilson; Mrs Jordan (Elizabeth), Mrs D. Wilson; Mr Jordan (Ben), Mrs E. Bloano; Mrs Slater (Amelia), Mrs H. E. Armstrong; Air Slater (Henry), Airs H. Hawken; Arictoria ’“(a child), Airs Clarke.
Characteristic costume was worn. The play provoked much laughter, and was all the more enjoyed as it was a departure from the usual Institute routine.
The singing of the National Anthem concluded a happy afternoon.
