President’s Handicap, of 1000 sovs; two miles. —(3) Free Advice, 24yds, 1; (1) Regal Voyage, scr, 2; (S) Pluto, scr, fl. All started.' The Abbey was coupled with the winner. Won by a head . Time —4.25. Halswell Handicap, of 400 sovs; two miles. — (6) Red Shadow, 12yds, 1; (6) Delightful, 12yds, 2; (1) Milo Minto, 12yds, 3. Nelson de Oro was scratched. Won by three lengths. Time—4.27. Welcome Handicap, —Aristotle Ij Homeward 2. All started. TRAINING NOTES. WORK AT TAKININI. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. On the Takanini training track this morning, Hard Words beat Refresher over five furlongs in 1.2. It was a good effort on the part of both, the display by Hard Words being impressive. Principal was beaten easily by Camp Princess over a similar distance in 1.5 3-5. Kodopen and Patecna were to have gone together, but got away unevenly from the half-mile peg. The former registered 53 2-ssec, and Pateena’s time was 52 l-ssec. Fedora was too good for Wee Betty over five furlongs in 1.2 2-5.
