ACCIDENT AT WHANG AM ARINO. TWO WAGGONS LEAVE LINE. RACEHORSES HELD TIP. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Some of the racehorses which had competed at. the Ellerslie Easter meet ing were involved in a train derailment at Whangamarino at 10 o’clock this morning. Ten horses for the AYaikato were on the train, and two animals consigned to Matamata were in a G waggon which left the rails. The waggon remained upright and the horses did not suffer anything worse than a fright. The accident occurred to the 7 a.m. Anckland-Ftankton mixed train when it was at the south end of the Wliangamarino station. It is understood that a spring on the engine slipped, and the consequent swaying caused a ZP waggon to leave the rails and take the horsebox with it. The train was delayed for two hours. The Auckland-East Coast express, which left at 9.8 a.m., was also delayed for an hour on 'the run, and the Rotorua express, which left at 10.15 o’clock, was held up for half an hour at a wayside station. In consequence, other trains were delayed on the Mer-eer-Frankton section. It was not until noon that the line was reported clear. No damage was (Tone to the permanent way.
