LIQUOR SEIZED
FIVE PLACES VISITED
SIMULTANEOUS RAIDS,
(Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, Monday.
A series of raids, with the object of locating sly-grog .depots, was carried out On 'Saturday evening by five police sergeants and 20 constables. Five places were visited and about 40 dozen bottles of beer, stout and spirits were seized.
The raids were carried out simultaneously, and the premises visited included two shops in Mt. Eden Road, near Symonds Street and one in Wellesley Street West, another in Upper Hobson Street, . and a private house in' Pitt Street. No trouble was experienced at any place and the raids were soon over.
The liquor taken from each place was collected by a police van which followed in the wake of the raiding party. At most places the stock consisted mostly of beer and stout, with odd bottles of spirits. In one of the premises a large quantity of “homebrew” was confiscated.
