AUCKLAND TITLE. QUALIFYING ROUNDS. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND. Monday. The links at Middlemore were ii perfect condition when the qualifying rounds of the Auckland provincial goll championship were played. The heays rain which fell on Friday night am early next morning took the sting on I of the course, and it played excellent ly. The opinion of old players was that the links had never been in bet ter condition for an Easter tourna ment. The weather at the start looket anything but promising, and earlj pairs started in soaking rain. Latei the conditions improved and there wa; a long spell of sunshine in the after noon. W. Morriee, last year’s win ner, was not a competitor. In doing the first qualifying roum in 73 (2 strokes under bogey), H. B Lusk, B. J. Smith and W. A. Donald al played tine golf. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day The second day’s play of the Auckland provincial golf tournament at the Middlemore links yesterday saw the championship candidates reduced to four —J, L. Black (Hamilton), R. M. George (Titirangi), B. H. Menzies (Otahuhu) and H. B. Lusk (Auckland). Lusk had two hard rounds, winning, at the 18th' in the morning against the young Titirangi player, H. Brinsden, and being carried again to the final hole in the afternoon by his club-mate, H, Plumley He and George were the two successful veterans of the day, the latter winning at the 16th against N. Louisson in the morning, and finishing a winner at the same green in the afternoon against the young Akarana champion, B, J. Smith. J. L. Black and E. H. Menzies represent the younger school. The Hamilton man got through both rounds comfortably, but Menzies had a great battle with the veteran,- W. B. Golbeck, who made the outward journey in 35, to get a lead of 4, but weakened on the greens returning, to lose the match at the 17th. The results of the afternoon round were: — J. L. Black beat W. 9. Ralph, 6 and 4, R, M. George beat E. J. Smith, 3 and 2, B. H, Menzies boat W. B. Colbeek, 2 and 1, H. B. Lusk beat H. Plumley, 1 up. Play in the Auckland provincial

handicap resulted as follows: —Second Round: Buckley beat Tidmarch, 3 and 2; McCrystall beat Brown, 2 and 1; Edmonds beat Wells, 1 up;'Simp son beat Aldred, 1 up. In the Bogey Handicap, played in the morning, the best cards returned were: B. H. Menzies, (4), 4 up; W. Wilson (12), 3 up. (Special to “Northern Advocate.-”) AUCKLAND, This Day. The tourney of the Titirangi Club was concluded yesterday. Some splendid play was witnessed, a very fine card of 73 being returned by A. C. Lamb, of Whangarei. The various contests resulted as follows: Easter Cup Final.—J. Gilmcur beat H. W. Cooke, 2 and 1. The Medal Handicap, played in the morning, was won by A. C. Lamb, whose card read: 75*—7—68. The Four-ball Bogey Handicap was won by J. Murray (5) aad A, E. Saunders (11), who returned a card of 9 up. CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP.
