SUBMARINE QUEST
POLAR SEA EXPLORATION. WILKINS’ PLANS UNFOLDED. * (Received 30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May .1. .Sir Hubert Wilkins, before the American Geographical Union, unfolded his plans for a submarine trip •through the top of the earth to seek meteorological secrets in the Polar Sea. He will leave Spitzbergen during July of next year in a specially equipped submarine and will go through the North Pole to Alaska, 2000 miles away. The trip will last two months. Sir Hubert explained that the submarine was the only moans of obtaining the desired information, as attempts by surface vessels and aeroplanes had proved futile. Dr. H. U. Svordup, the noted Norwegian oceanographer, and other scientists have agreed that the undertaking is feasible.
