TRAINS COLLIDE
WAGGONS DERAILED,
EXPRESS DELAYED.NOBODY INJURED. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) MERCER, This Day. A collision, between the 2 a.m. Frankton to Auckland goods train and the north-bound ordinary main trunk express, occurred a few chains south of the tunnel south of Mercer station in the vicinity of n.lo o’clock this morning. Both trains were moving slowly at the time. The driver of the express received a signal to proceed slowly when about a mile .south of Mercer, consequently ho had reduced speed. Owing to the heavy fog he was unable to see the roar red lights of the preceding goods train until almost on top of it, there also being a curve iu the line. The guard’s van and four waggons on the goods train were derailed.
On the express were some ISO passengers. Nobody was injured, the impact being very light. The passengers walked to the Mercer .Station to join the Mercer lo Auckland train, which left at C. 43 o’clock. The train services were .slightly disorganised and the line was cleared .at 5.20 o’clock.
