NEW ZEALAND BUTTER
CANADIAN IMPOST. DECLARED INIQUITOUS. (Received 10.34 a.m.) VANCOUVER, May 5. The New Zealand editors, who arrived at Winnipeg on Sunday en route for -England, condemned the three cent import tax to be levied on New Zealand butter. ' Mr A. E. Manning, editor Of the “Waikato Times,” considered ithe proposal iniquitous and expressed the belief that it would lead to reprisals on the part of New Zealand.
Butter from New Zealand is bound to command a higher price when the duty is imposed next autumn. Wholesale butter dealers hero declare that the Canadian production cannot be increased, despite the new duty, and will be unable to meet the home demand. They declare that the price of both the Canadian and New Zealand products is bound to bo higher.
