NEW YEAR’S' DAY EVENT

MEETING- OF COMMITTEE

A meeting of the committee of the

Whangarei Harbour Regatta Association \was held in the Onerahi Town Hall last evening, Mr G. A, Bethel!

presiding. A large amount of business was done, and arrangements for the 19.10 regatta are now well in hand.

There are a few alterations in the programme as carried out at the last regatta. The ocean yacht race from Russell to Whangarei has been eliminated, but there will be a race, for auxiliary vessels, and it is expected to be a popular event. There will also be the New Zealand championship for 22-footcrs, which should also be a good draw.

A tentative programme has been | drawn up with the first race at 10.4:5 la.m. for keel yachts; at 11 o’clock row- * ing, light maidens under 10 stone; j’ 11.15, traders’ launeh race; noon 7-foot yachts; 12.10 p.m., youths ’"fours rowing; 12.10, auxiliaries; 1 o’clock. 10-footers; 1,15, rowing, maiden fours, heavies; 2.0, N;Z. Championship 22foot, single sculls rowing; 2.15 8 h.p. launches; 2.10, junior fours; 1.0, maiden pairs; 1.15, Harbour Board Cup, launches; 4.15, junior pair oars. Messrs A. D. Weir and Johnson were appointed to attend to entries at Oncrahi, and Messrs V. Harrison and W. Reynolds for launches in Whangarei. Mr M. A. McKenzie was appointed to deal with the auxiliary entries and Mr R. Cutforth the local yachts.

The following regatta officials were | appointed; —Launch ha.ndiCappers, Messrs F. Byles, R. Laurie and F. Reynolds; sailing handicaps, Messrs R. Gu tf orth and F. Tercel; visiting yacht handicaps, Mr W. A. Wilkinson; judge, rowing, Mr M, Conway; starter, umpire and clerk of scales for rowing, A.R.A. appointee; starter and Judge, launch events, Messrs R. Laurie, A. M. ftteadman, W, A. Wilkinson, clerk of course, Mr W. Fraser. Mr F. Middleton has been appointed secretary to the association.
