Canon H. 1?. B. Gillespie, vicar of Fitzroy, Taranaki, has accepted the position of vicar of the parochial district of Morrinsvillc,

Mr F. G, Seecombe, a well-known identity of the district, left Whangarei this week to take.np residence in Hamilton. For a long period Mr Seceom'be was with the Drainage Department and latterly has been engaged in land agency work.

Mr F. W, T. Rowley, Secretary for the Labour Department, retir.a on superannuation at the end of this month. Yesterday he was presented with an oak writing case and gifts for Mrs and Miss Rowley on behalf of the officers of the Department throughout New Zealand.

The Hon. .1. G. Cobbe, Minister of Marine and of Industries and Commerce, arrived in Whangarei by the express this afternoon and will spend the night here. Tomorrow he leaves for the North, returning to Whangarei at seven o’clock on Monday evening. He will leave foi; Auckland n.-xt Tuesday.

The death uas occurred of Mr Robert Anderson, aged 73, in the Wha- . o-aiei District Hospital, as the result of a fracture of the ribs, which resulted in heart failure. The deceased was an employee of the State Forest Service, and was engaged in looking after the department's Puhipuhi plantations. When he was walking over a rough cattle track he unfortunately slipped and fell so heavily that two of his ribs were broken. His son was soon upon, the scene, and Mr Andersop, was quickly removed to the hospital, but congestion of the lungs set in, resulting in death.

Mr John Thomas Spargo, who died at Northcote on Tuesday afternoon, was born at Port Waikato, and when hut a child the family had to flee to Onehunga to escape hostile Maoris. Later he was employed at Morrinr,ville, and acted as clerk for the Town Board. For some years he was i i business as a grocer at Thames, and afterward at Whangarei, and was with ■ the New Zealand Portland Cement. Company for several years as manager of the store at Limestone fsfand. During the last few years he had been in business as a grocer at Northcote. Mr Spargo is survived by his wife and his brother, Mr Edward Spargo, of Port Waikato.
