. DEPARTMENTAL REPORT. ACT T’O BE AMENDED. IMPORTANT PROPOSALS'. (From Our Parliamentary Special.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The anuria! rep'ort of the Departmorit of Internal Affairs, submitted to Parliament yesterday, makes,reference to impending alterations in the Town Planning Act. “Important amendments to the Town Planning Act, which have been sliown 1 by actual experience to be necessary, or desirable,, are under consideration^ ; states the report, “including provisions to enable local authorities to co-operate in the preparation of non-obligatory 1 regional schemes; for the co-ordination and correlation of matters of economic and social interests which do not begin arid terminate within the boundaries of any single local government authority, the postponement of >the .approval of statutory town planning schemes was necessary pending the preparation and completion of regional schemes; the amendment of the provisions relait-' ing to the assessment of compensation and betterment, and provisions to enable local authorities to exorcise more effective control over land subdivision and building operations within their areas, pending approval of their own planning schemes, in lanticipation of legislation enabling the preparation of regional schemes.

“'Provisional regional planning committor's have already boon set up in several areas and there is every reason to believe and hope that local authorities, and the public, generally, are thoroughly awake to the benefits which can be conferred on the community through the preparation of far-sighted schemes of physical development, based on thorough survey and study of the existing conditions and tendencies,'and the reaction those schemes will have upon the conservation of the natural resources of the country. “
