OBITUARY
DR, A. S. PEAKE
(Australian Press Assn. —United Service.) (Received !) it.m.) LONDON, August 19. The death is announced of Dr, Arthur S. Peake, theologian, in his 64th year. The late Dr. Arthur Samuel Peake had been professor of Biblican exegesis at Victoria University, Manchester, since 1904. He was also tutor in the Hartley Primitive Methodist College in that city. He had been president of the National Free Church Council since last year.
Dr. Peake as born at Leek, Staffordshire, on November 24, 1805. He was lecturer in Mansfield College, Oxford, 1890-92; Fellow of Merton College, 1890-97; lecturer in Lancashire Independent College, 1895-1912; lecturer United Methodist College, Manchester, 1904-12; hon. D.D, Aberdeen, 1907; and hon. D.D. Oxford, 1920. His publications were many, commencing in 1897 with “A Guide to Biblical Study. ’ 1 He wrote on theology and Christianity, one of his great’ works being "The Bible, its Origin, its Significance, and its Abiding Worth” (1913). With Dr. R. G. Parsons in .1926 he edited the .'British edition in volumes of "The Outline of Christianity. ”
