Backhand *s report that today, at Westfield, bhey penned 293 head (comprising 214 steers, 79 cows and heifers), compared with 219 last Wednesday. The major portion of the ox beef was equal in weight and quality to anything offered this season. Although there' was often keen, demand, values were a trifle lower, especially for heavyweights. Extra choice ox sold to 42/ per lOOlbs; choice and prime ox, 39/ to 42/j secondary and plain, 37/ to 38/6; prime young cow and heifer beef, 38/ to 41/; .secondary, 34/ to 37/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in pra'ce from £l9 5/ to £26 10/; heavy, £l7 to £l9; lighter, £ls 10/, to £l6 17/6; light, £l4 to 15 7/6; unfinished and small, £lO 5/ to £l3 7/6; extra heavy prime, young cows and heifers, £l3 to £l4 15/; heavy, £ll 10/ to £l2 17/6; lighter, £8 10/ to £ll 5/; other cows, £5 15/ to £8 7/6.
