AUSTRALIANS WIN FIRST GAME

The Sydney Varsity team played its first match on Wednesday against the Victoria College side, at present the champion club. The game was fast, but that is 'all that can be said of it. There was some excuse for a side just off a boat, but none for local men, whose passing was dreadful and handling of the ball beneath contempt. There was a great amount of running about which never led to anythhg, and, in the end, the local team stupidly gave away the game by presenting the visitors with a penalty Tight in front of Ithe g?a, each side having, after tremendous 'labour, previously scored an unconverted try. Sydney thus won by (i points to 3. .Ramson, of Victoria College, whose place-kicking has been a feature, of this season’s Rugby, had five or six shots at goal, but he, too, was stricken with the general disability of his comrades, and failed eveay time.
