LANDS FOR SETTLEMENT

DEPUTATIONS TO MINISTER. OUTLET CANAL WANTED. PURCHASE OF AN ESTATE. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) CAMBRIDGE, This Day. Tin* Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. W. Forbes lias arrived here and received a deputation which, urged that the Government put a main canal through 'a. swamp, ithus draining TS,ofl() acres of good country in the Mona vale district in close proximity to good roads and a railway station. The land is situated, four miles from Cam bridge and settlers are already rated. The drainage board’s work is useless without the outlet.

The Minister gave the deputation a sympathetic, hearing and promised careful consideration of file matter.

The Mayor of Cambridge, Mr C. H. Priestley, supported by Mr F. Lye, member for Waikato, presented a resolution of the Cambridge Borough Council urging the Government to purchase the Bardowie Estate of 1260 acres at 'Cambridge for subdivision in lots of 40 to 50 acres. The land is liiaf class, well roaded and eminently suited for close settlement.

The Minister promised to go rare fully into ,thc matter.
