.SCHOOLMASTER CLAIMS £SOO,

(Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day.

A sequel to sensational charges made against a country schoolmaster in the Hokianga district was heard in the Supremo Court today, when Mr Justice Kennedy and a. jury of twelve were called to consider an action by Lawrence Topping Donaldson, headmaster of Motukaraka School, near Rawene, for £SOO damages for libel against Leo-1 nard Samuel Burrell, butter factory manager. Donaldson alleged that the following false and malicious statement concerning him had been written by the defendant to the Auckland Education Board on September 10th: “I have to report that Mr Donaldson has on various occasions interfered in an improper manner with the clothing and persons of my two daughters.” Counsel, in opening, stated that a committee sot up by the board to investigate Burrell’s complaints came to the 'conclusion thar Donaldson was guiltless of flie charges, but, owing to a, feeling that gossip would seriously affect Donaldson’s work, recommended ■his transfer, and he was now teacher at Opua.
