Mr Robert Tlate, of Waitara, Taranaki, who passed away on Wednesday, was a famous Rugby footballer in tlie ’Bo’s, and was a member of the Taranaki team which had the distinction and honour of being the first team in New Zealand to defeat Stoddart’s English team in 18881 He played for Taranaki in the days when that province was famous for its Rugby players,- such as the Baylys and the Goods. | A happy function took place at the Post Office yesterday afternoon when the staff gathered to farewell Miss E. M. Montgomery, for some years one of the supervisors of the Whangarci Telephone Exchange, who has been transferred to a similar .position at Wanganui. The presentation of a set of solid silver .afternoon teaspoons and some choice cutlery was made by the postmaster, Mr G. H. Mprrish. Mr G. W. Parker also referred to the esteem in winch Miss Montgomery was held by her fellow workers. Miss Montgomery. will be succeeded by Miss Make.ig, formerly supervisor at Gory, who will arrive on promotion hero shortly.

The death occurred at Greymouth on Monday night of Mr Frederick Hamilton Kilgour, J.P., manager of the Greymouth “Evening Star” Company, at .the age of 00 years, Mr Kilgour suddenly became ill at work. An operation proved unavailing. Mr Kilgour field his position in the “Star” for. 38 years. A native of Dunstan, Otago, he served on the Technical College Board as chairman of the finance committee. He was a trustee and a member of the Jockey Club District Committee, a member of the former Education Board,, and the High School Board, also of the licensing committee for 35 years. He was acting-coroner for four years.
