Cabinet has authorised further assistance for the unemployed on country roads, alSb a subsidy of about £7700 to the -Plunket Society. In pursuance of the Government’s decision to prosecute the GisborhcWairoa section of the East Coast railway, a start is to be made next week from the Waikokopu end. A new lighthouse is to be placed near the Kahu Rocks, between Gape Palliser and Castle Point on the East Coast of the North Island. Building on the rocks themselves is considered prohibitive and the site will be on the foreshore.

At the W.C.T.IT. Conference yesterday it was resolved that members should make efforts to be allowed to speak for broadcasting; that women should be appointed to the film censorship, and that the .censorship of motion pictures should be more drastic. It is likely that a record number of entries will bo received for the Whangarei Amateur Swimming Club’s carnival to be held next week at the school baths.
