After discussing the dangerous nature of the level-crossing, near the Tauraroa station, it was decided, on the motion of Mr W. do ask Mr A. J. Murdoch, M.P., to approach the Railway Department with a view to getting the hill removed that obstructs the view of the line.

The state of the| new road work near the Tauraroa came in for much criticism, and the secretary was instructed to write to the district engineer of the Public Works Department, Whangarei, asking if the job was completed. With regard to ' a communication from the provincial secretary re fhe Westfield works, it was decided to enter a strong protest against the extension of killing space in face of the Government veto. The branch decided that it had no complaints and no recommendations to make with respect to the procedure of the petrol tax refunds. A somewhat lively discussion took place on the subject of daylight saving, a motion being .advanced by Mr T. Porter, and seconded by Mr W. Codlin: “That wo strongly object to .summer time.” As an amendment, Mr W. 11, Gillingham proposc/d, and Mr T. DAIRYING NOTES. Mr P. Walker, who recently returned from Masterton, intends to build uip a pedigree Ayrshire herd. With that end in view he purchased from the Homebush stud of Messrs William Mo'ore and Son five head to form a nucleus. Three two-year-old in-calf heifers, with SOOGOOIb butter-fat (backing on both sides, are included in the list, and two young bulls, one a firstprize winner at the last Masterton Show. Mr Walker has found the Jerseys to be very susceptible to disease, and through losing his best cows each season has been unable to build up a herd of that breed. The Jersey seems to be slowly, but surely, losing favour with our settlers, and quite a few are giving the Ayrshire a trial.
