(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) PUBLIC LIBRARY. The annum I meeting of subscribers to the public library was held on Monday night. Mr Berry, chairman of the committee, presiding, in his report said that good progress had been made during the past year, the. committee having 294 books on the ishelves. He regretted the list of subscribers had not increased in the same ratio. The balance sheet disclosed £9 18s 5d to credit, members’-subscriptions and the Government-subsidy and donations amounting to £27. 6s, being the principal sources of. revenue, whilst new books absorbe/L £25 18s. It 'was resolved that all subscribers living outside the town boundary be deemed country members, who would be permitted to take four books per week at one time instead of two twice per week. The system of purchasing new books was explained, and when the meeting wias asked for an expression of opinion regarding the class of books supplied those present .considered the new books were very/?goqd, and affirmed the committee’s method. It was decided to reduce the number of the committee to live/ from nine.

The election -of officers resulted: — Committee: Messrs F. W. Bean, ®. W. Harold and H. Rogers, with Mesdames J. Orr and H. Rogers; secretary and treasurer: Mr H. Vaile; auditor; Mr F. W. Bean. A vote of thanks to all outgoing officers and the honorary was carried, special mention being made to the services of the retiring secretary, Mr Bean. A committee meeting was subsequently held, at which. Mr Rogers was elected chairman. Arrangements, were made for (opening -the library on Show Day for the convenience of country subscribers to change books.

PERSONAL. ; His Grace, the Bishop of Auckland, Dr Avenill, .paid his annual pastoral visit to Kaikohe on Sunday, preaching to a crowded c'origregation at St, Joseph’s. 'The Rt. Hon. J.' G. Coates and Mrs Coates passed through Kaikohe on their’ way to Paihia, from .where they propose participating in the sport of big game fishing around Cape Brett. They will be the guests of the Hoa. V. H. Reed, M.L.C.
