NAVAL AGREEMENT
JAPANESE OPINION,
(Australian Press Association.) (Received 10.15 aval.) TOKIO, March 13. The naval authorities welcome the reported agreement between Sir Austen Chamberlain and M. Briand in -reference to the five-power conference, but are of opinion that an essential preliminary is to secure an understanding', or agreement, with America. L’Eeho do Paris says that M. Briand and Sir Austen Chamberlain have come to an understanding to hold a naval conference in June, at which the five principal naval powers .should he represented.
DISARMAMENT ISSUE. TWO ALTERNATIVES. (Australian Press Association.) (Received 2 p.m.) GENEVA, February 13. It is suggested here that a new naval conference will be the outcome of the April meeting of the League’s Preparatory Commission, and that until the naval powers reach an agreement the whole of the League’s disarmament hopes will be frustrated. The alternatives are a new naval conference or remission of the problem to a special sub-commitlee of tho League’s Commission.
