HEAD-ON SMASH
THREE PEOPLE INJURED. | CRASH AGAINST BALUSTRADE. (Special to “Northern Advocate.") AUCKLAND, This Day. Three occupants of a five-seater j motor car were taken to the Auckland Hospital last evening as the result of an accident near the corner of Albert Street and Wyndhain Street, when the vehicle crashed head-on with considerable force, into the end ot the balustrade separating Albert Street from the narrow lower road giving access to Durham Street. The injured were: —■ John Stokes, married, aged 34, of 17 Beresford Street, severe gash from back of head to shoulder, as well as cuts on the face. Condition serious. Mrs W. Thomas, of 17 Beresford Street, broken arm. Athol Thomas, aged G, son of Mrs Thomas, injuries to neck and slight concussion, as well as biting his "tongue right through as the result of the impact. _ The car was being driven up Albert Street by Sydney George Knight, of 10 Maxwell Avenue, Grey Lynn, when the accidenct occurred. Screams from the car attracted a large crowd and the injured occupants were assisted into a nearby house.
Stokes was thrown almost completely through the windscreen, which was shattered and 'hurled in all directions. Besides cuts on his face he received a gash 10 inches long and half an inch deep from behind his head to his shoulder blade.
