Papers by mail give particulars of the unfortunate death of Norman St. Clair Hales, formerly well-known in New Zealand and once a prominent amateur actor and singer. He joined the stage in the United States. Ho ..attended • a private function ait a fire brigade station in West 58th Street, New York, on December 31 and accidentally fell down a pole hole. Another man vainly fried to rescue him, but fell on top of him. At that moment a fire call came and Hales was carried into the street to await the ambulance there. H© 'Was found dead by a policeman before it arrived.
