BOWLING
PORTLAND TOURNAMENT FINAL. The final of the Portland tournament between Whangarei and Hikurangi, played on Tuesday, resulted in a win for Whangarei by 27 points to 18. Whangarei were represented by Eccles, Miller, King and Chissell (s), Hikurangi’s team being Davidson, Nesbitt, Taylor and Ward (s). Hikurangi made a good start, and on the first three heads gained a lead of six, but they failed in the next five, and on the eighth head Whangavci had a lead of four, which they increased shortly iafter by gaining two fives in succession, bringing the score to 20—8 on the eleventh and 21—8 on the twelfth, which really constituted the , turning point of the game. Whangarei drew well ahead, and though Hikurangi scored two threes in succession on the fourteenth and fifteenth they wore unable to make up the leeway, the final scores being 27 — 18.
