CHRISTMAS TREE

CELEBRATION AT WAIPU. On Wednesday night one of the most successful functions ever held in the district took place in the Waipu Hall, comprising a huge Christmas Tree celebration ostensibly to mark the end of the school year. The whole district participated, and the parents and friends of the children did their utmost to give the young people a really good treat. The greatest excitement was when Father Christmas arrived in a gaily decorated ear, accompanied by his mascot, “Felix.” The juveniles’ eyes opened wide with wonder, and great was the joy when each child in turn received a present from Santa Claus. The great concourse acclaimed his efforts in no uncertain style.

Then came a sumptuous repast, and the little ones revelled in all .the joys of ice creams, etc. • Games were freely indulged in, and finally, for the adults, dancing was held from 10 o’clock till 1 a.m. All the usual 'decorative dances, such as balloon and streamer waltzes, created a pretty effect.

The people of the district arc to be congratulated on the splendid success of the entertainment.
