SOUTH POLAR VENTURES

WILKINS EXPEDITION.

.STILL SUBJECT TO DELAY.

(Australian Press Association.) (Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, December 18

A message, from Sir Hubert Wilkins, at Deception Island, dated today, states: “Our seaplane, fully loaded, is lying at anchor ready to start at a moment’s notice on the hoped-for adventure, but drifting ice entering the bay ruined any chance of taking off. However, a short flight in the plane San Francisco, which is now fitted with wheels, in the 1 'course of which we climbed to 6000 feet, covering 100 miles, revealed as far as the eye could see that the clouds were unbroken. It is useless to proceed, under present conditions. The indications are for improvement. ”
